Ezren Silvertongue has loved Bethral the warrior for a long time.  However, he can never express his feelings because of his shame for her having rescued him from slavery for a mere copper.  When his rogue magic takes them to the Plains, they are thrust into a civil war and learn that his magic is the key to their survival and of the Plains.  Will they uncover love or will his wild magic lead them to their deaths?

Bethral is a warrior who protects Queen Gloriana but she is mesmerized by Ezren Silvertongue but it’s not like he notices her.  In fact, he does his best to avoid her.  Unbeknownst to her, he is painfully aware of her but he cannot help but remember her saving him from torture by buying him from slavery for a copper.  How can she look at him and not feel pity when he wants her so badly?  The other stumbling block between them is the mysterious magic that is building inside him.  When it threatens the people, Bethral makes the decision to take him into a portal and hopefully away from danger.  Unfortunately, they wind up in the Plains amidst a civil war where Ezren’s wild magic holds the key to saving the Plains and maybe their own future together.

DESTINY’S STAR brings the CHRONICLES OF THE WARLANDS and the STARS series together in such a way that I never thought possible.  Ezren and Bethral are two characters who are skittish around each other because they met in such horrific circumstances.  Although they are friends, neither could imagine the other would want to be their lover much less a mate.  When they arrive in the Plains, it gives them a chance to be in a “wilder” society where truth is held above all else.  The people of the Plains treat sex, love and feelings very openly and find Ezren and Bethral rather prudish.   I loved how Ms. Vaughan cleverly addressed Ezren’s wild magic.  It was like she knew exactly what she going to do right from the beginning.  It makes perfect sense and it brings all the stories full circle.  Ms. Vaughan continues to write some of the best stories and I am anxious to return to the Plains in WARCRY. - Ann, RomanceJunkies.com
